On to the stones:

The cover of stoneworld has a very cool new building on it. The new museum in Liverpool is clad in Jura Limestone, which is an otherwise fairly consistent material. Jura Limestone is very German, clean and uniform. What is interesting is that they have done something simple which has transformed the look of the facade. The panels are in a 3-d pattern which uncovers the variation of the stone when seen at a different angle as well as "shadowplay" (respect to The Killers). The effect is remarkable when viewed at different angles, not to mention the overall design of the building is quite interesting, especially after considering the location in the middle of the Liverpool docks.

On to the stones:

A little background,
I work for a natural stone distribution company. The beauty of this stuff is unparalleled, and I hope to incorporate it into design, to include the magic of mother nature in buildings and projects.

One material that you could either love or hate is Marinace Black and White. The first reaction is inevitably "wow it looks like the bottom of a riverbed!", which is usually followed by "who would ever actually use this?" Maybe the latter just needs a bit of inspiration...

Marinace is an amalgamation of many different stones that will keep geologists talking for hours. It is quite difficult to work with as the fabricator must adjust the speed of the saw while cutting through the completely different layers of stone. Other stones that have this characteristic of amalgamation are marinacies verde, black and grey, black and gold... then there is paladio red, and aquarius blue among others.

Every material has its place, and this one in needs a well designed surrounding to be pulled off well. Perhaps counter-intuitively, it works better when used in abundance rather than in small pieces.

When you get to this link go to the second to last picture. Here is a black and white marinace that does everything right. It is a tough look to pull off, but the best thing about this design is the countertop material used on the floor. My gut reaction would have been that it is way too much going on, kudos to Steven Gambrel on the design.

I include this link because of the backsplash which is quite a statement. If it wasn't for the backsplash the counters would look quite "busy". This stone looks great with the stainless appliances also.

Danger

Saw him live in Milan last week. Amazing performance. The graphics were really cool too but for whatever reason were shut off half way through the show. Danger is a graphic designer and does all the graphics in the show. Check out the flyer for the show too, that's Danger hiding behind the Duomo.

Definitely the most legendary and popular Puma style of all time, this classic has a place in history and in every Hall of Fame. At the 1968 Olympics, the newly released Puma Suede was worn by Tommie Smith, the prominent Olympic athlete, when he took to the Olympic awards podium with one fist held defiantly in the air. Walt Frazier wore this style in the 1980's and this shoe became known as the "Clyde". The Suede is widely regarded as the original B-Boy shoe. It was made famous by early break dancing crews, such as the New York City Breakers and the Rock Steady Crew, who rocked them religiously at early Hip-Hop jams in New York City.

Was moving from my old place in Milano to my friends place because my contract was up. Somehow, they got lost in the move. This post is in memory of my blue suede shoes.
